I do… we all do! I considered myself pretty fit and have been practicing yoga for over 10 years, and was pretty familiar with HIIT, Vinyasa Yoga, Power Flow & a regular Bikram practitioner (& teacher). I thought I might be ready to try something new, but I heard it was pretty intense so I wondered if I was really ready… or capable for such a feat…
If this sounds familiar, you’re definitely not alone! Be it Bikram Yoga or Power+ they each have a reputation for being tough. Power+ is known for being a calorie-torching, high-intensity, high-energy workout — and they were right, as it sure is! But how do you know if you’re ready to try a Power+ Yoga class, and what are the benefits of adding this class to your yoga routine? Read on to find out!
What is Power+?
Power+ is Bikram Yoga Ascot Vales our signature hot yoga and pilates method. It is a a unique combination of Vinyasa Yoga, Pilates, high-intensity cardio bursts combined with strength training & light hand weights. A total body workout, Power+ classes are set to energizing music and designed to tone and sculpt every major muscle group. Pilates core moves and strength training exercises, such as squats, lunges, bicep and tricep curls are incorporated into the Vinyasa flow to build lean muscle mass. This class compliments your regular yoga practice, complete with High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and Yin Yoga stretching, boosting the metabolism and pushing your strength and flexibility to new heights.
What should I expect during my first Power+ class?
You should expect a challenging workout! Power+ classes combine the best of everything – relaxing yoga, plus upbeat training to motivate and take you to new fitness levels. The feeling of accomplishment that you get after taking a Power+ Yoga class is incredible.
Just like any other class at BYAV, you’re encouraged to take this class at your own pace and to incorporate rests (e.g. in Child’s Pose, Downward Dog or your choice) whenever needed. By the end of class, you’ll feel invigorated, yet exhausted and dripping in sweat — and you’ll love it!
Why should I add Power+ Yoga to my yoga routine?
There are many benefits that Power+ Vinyasa Yoga adds to your practice. You’ll be incorporating cardio exercises and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to keep your heart healthy and to burn calories. With the addition of light hand weights, you’ll also build lean muscle and you’ll challenge yourself in new ways.
If those aren’t reasons enough to consider trying a class, Power+ Yoga is also fun! When you feel like you and your body are ready, give a class a try. You’ll be happy you did!
What is the difference between the 60 minute (Power+ Yoga) and the 45 minute (Power+45 Yoga) class?
We have recently added Power+45 (on a trial basis pending uptake) to our schedule. This class will be held each Wed at 5.30pm.
Much like Express Bikram, this will be a faster, higher intensity, condensed version of our existing Power+ (60 min). If that sounds scary, don’t let it put you off! Just like all our classes this is a beginners class, we offer modifications and encourage everyone to work at your own pace, resting as needed.
Note, due to the fast pace of the class, we encourage you to try at least one 60 min Power+ (if able) prior to trying Power+45. If you can’t… don’t worry about it, you will be fine!
